Instigation Day 3: The Dual Journey

You and your characters are on a quest

We’re three days in. At this point, turning back wouldn’t be easy yet the finish line is still a ways off. You my friend are on the journey.

Author Roald Dahl describes writing as “Going on a very long walk”

Every story is a journey—physical, emotional, spiritual, all of the above. Your characters are going somewhere.

But don’t forget: you’re on a journey too. From blank page to first draft, doubt to momentum, idea to action.

So here’s what I want you to consider today, for your character(s) and yourself:

  • Where does the journey begin?

  • Where are they now?

  • Where are they heading?

  • What impossible fork in the road will they reach?

  • What is the desired destination?

  • What is the unintended destination?

Draw it. Name it. Speak it. Trace it.

Going further on the sprint

The first three instigations have been available to everyone. But for those of you ready to go the full 15 and beyond, I’ve got more in store:

🗣️ One-on-one check-ins
📝 Group write-ins
🎧 Additional prompts and tools

If that sounds good, become a paid subscriber and keep the momentum going.

No pressure—this community is open and ongoing. But if you’re all in on this draft, I’m right there with you.

Let’s keep building.
